Senior Services

Senior Services include Congregate Meals, Transportation to Medical Appointments, Social events and activities, seminars, classes and presentations, daytrips, crafts, and games.

Senior Community Center Programs

  • Residents in Bexar County or Guadalupe County

  • Over age 60 or the spouse or dependent of eligible senior.

  • Provides a current copy Photo ID or other proof of residency (for program funders)

  • Transportation services are offered to residents who live in Converse, Live Oak, Universal City, Schertz, and nearby Bexar County areas. A fare is charged.

  • Completes the Registration form for Congregate Meals and Transportation.

  • Participants are encouraged to donate meals and program support.

  • Clients should be mobile and self-sufficient for daily activities or with the support of a personal caregiver.

Caregivers, spouses, disabled dependent children and service animals are allowed to attend.


Senior Transportation

Senior Transportation Services to GRASP Senior Center and Medical Appointments are available to eligible neighbors over age 60.

Appointments for trips must be scheduled at least 2 business days prior.  

Clients must register online or on or before the initial trip.

Roundtrip Fares are determined by the distance from the residence to the medical destination or grocery store.

Trip appointments are available between 8 a.m. and return home by 4 p.m.  Phone 210.658.6351.


Utility Assistance

  • Resides at address for 12 months or more within the service area.

  • Provides a current copy of Utility Bill (CPS or GVEC) in applicant’s name.

  • Reports past due balance

  • Disconnected service will not be considered.

  • Reconnect Fees or Deposits will not be considered.

  • Total Household Income from all sources is below 200% poverty level.

  • A current photo ID reflecting current address.

  • Proof of income for most recent 30 days.

  • Has not received assistance in past 12 months.


Congregate Meals - Hot Lunch Program

Hot noon meals are served Monday to Friday at the GRASP Community Center in Converse.   Professionally prepared meals meet all nutrition requirements for older adults.  Menus are determined by licensed dieticians and change each month.   All participants must register to participate in the programs.  Participants may make a voluntary donation for meals, snacks and beverages.    Caregivers may register and assist clients who have special needs as well.   The facilities are accessible to all.  Daily transportation is available to participants.   Seniors over the age of 60 with a current ID may register at the center.


Safe & Secure Family Support Program - Prevent Elder Abuse

GRASP provides help to families needing urgent assistance to recover from a household fire, flood, or natural events causing homelessness or housing insecurity.  Clients may seek help with rent, clothing, furniture and household goods and food.

  • Resides at address for 12 months or more within the service area.

  • Resident of Bexar County Cities of Adkins, Cibolo, Converse, Live Oak, Schertz, Selma, Universal City, Kirby, Windcrest

  • Provides documentation for fire, flood, or other natural disasters occurring in most recent 90 days.

  • Referred by the United Way Helpline 211 or other agencies such as the Red Cross or Salvation Army.

  • A current photo ID or other available documentation reflecting current address.

  • Complete application and case manager interview.

  • GRASP Thrift Store Vouchers for household goods, clothing, and furniture will be offered.


Senior Activity Programs

Individuals participate in daily and special activities that include low-impact exercises,  guest speakers, arts, crafts, day trips, dinner trips, dances and other activities planned by enrolled seniors and volunteers.  Daily activities may include table games, BINGO, Karaoke, puzzles and book exchange, and bible studies.
